SOPHIE CONRAN | Greenhouse + Indoor Watering Can in Buttermilk
Regular price $78.50 $78.50A sensational example of Burgon & Ball’s collaboration with Sophie Conran, the latest generation of the British design dynasty. She brings her ‘modern country house’ style to a range of must-have garden tools and accessories, elevating the everyday for home gardeners and plant lovers.
Ergonomically, this tool is a joy to use. As with all things in life, it’s a matter of balance: the handle slides forwards easily in your hand as you tilt, the slender, angled spout to direct the pour for on-target watering. The result is more moisture where it’s needed and less waste of a valuable resource in a dry continent.
Behind this fusion of beauty and practicality is Burgon & Ball’s peerless metal-working skills, developed continually throughout the company’s 290-year history. The steel body is treated with a protective powder coating and a sophisticated matt finish in a range of colours, including Sophie’s choice of this deliciously creamy buttermilk hue.
A metal seal bearing the Sophie Conran for Burgon & Ball logo on the top surface of the can adds the finishing touch and marks this out as a design of distinction. Pretty enough to leave out on the windowsill with pride.
Materials: Powder-coated galvanised steel
Dimensions: 43 x 23 x 13cm

Q. Why are wooden candle wicks good?
A. Hutwoods use 100% natural and eco-friendly wooden wicks that are sourced from FSC-certified mills. There are many benefits to wooden wicks, the most renowned is the calming soft crackling sound they make, reminiscent of a log fire. They burn cleaner than cotton wicks with no carbon build up and burn slower than traditional wicks, resulting in a much longer burn time for your Hutwoods candle.
Q. What type of wax do Hutwoods use?
A. A 100% natural blend of soy coconut wax. This is plant-based based making it one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable waxes. It is composed of non-petroleum renewable resources, derived from high-yield crops of coconut and soybeans. It’s a fully biodegradable wax, free from pesticides and herbicides and kosher certified. The benefits of soy coconut wax are that it produces less smoke, and less soot, is non-toxic and far better for the environment.
Q. Do Hutwood candles produce a strong scent throw?
A. This is one of thing things we are most known for. Our fragrances are infused using natural essential oils combined with fine fragrance oils, selected for their individual characteristics. Hutwood candles are carefully blended at melting point, so your candle will deliver a consistent and unmatched scent throw throughout its life span.

SOPHIE CONRAN | Gift-Boxed Heart-Shaped Trowel
Regular price $66.00 $66.00Many of us discovered the fun of gardening as kids even if it was just making dirt volcanoes while Nonno planted the tomato seeds. For some of us, we've only relished in it since the recent lockdowns and slowdowns. Apart from the physical benefits and all that prettiness, greenery and self-satisfaction, who knew gardening could be so meditative? Even more so with Sophie Conran's Gardening Hand Fork.
The versatile heart-shaped trowel has been created to be ideal for planting. It’s extremely useful for shallower digging and scooping when planting bulbs, bedding, or plug plants. The wide head moves soil quickly and easily, and the pointed sharpened tip slices smoothly through ground. The ergonomic design gives the gardener more digging power, since the head is in line with handle, rather than angled. This trowel’s small size makes it especially ideal for container gardening.
The mirror-polished stainless steel of the tool head glides with minimal resistance through the soil. The stainless steel is rust-resistant and will keep rust at bay to stay looking bright and beautiful for years to come. The FSC® beech wooden handle is carefully shaped to fit satisfyingly into the gripped hand, and the turned ferrule in solid brass provides a secure and lasting connection between handle and body.
Presented in a stylish gift box, this unusual garden tool makes a lovely gift for any gardener – or, of course, a very practical treat for yourself!
The waxed Forest Security Council (FSC) beechwood handle is smooth and fits snugly into the hand, while the brass ferrule ensures a secure connection between the tool head and handle. The etched Sophie Conran for Burgon & Ball maker’s mark adds a distinctive finishing touch.
Presented in a beautiful box, this heart-shaped trowel makes a beautiful and thoughtful gift for any gardener.
Overall length: 24cm
Head width: 10.5cm
Weight: 226g
Tool head: stainless steel
Handle: FSC® beech wood
Ferrule: brass

An ode to slow travel, splendour and sun. Que viva España.
For this magazine, Lodestar's contributors have descended into caves in the name of cheese, gone in search of volcanoes, wandered ancient pilgrim paths, ridden horses into the sunset, been enthralled by architecture, cooked the way their grandparents did and penned odes to lace. They have explored places that come with meaning.
Some destinations are ‘home’, others are steeped in memory, and a few are being discovered for the very first time, the siren’s call impossible to resist. You can read this zest in their words and see the ardour in their images, because when someone creates with love and respect you feel it. You’re there with them. This is how you discover and are reacquainted with Spain - through the eyes of others.
