Founded in 2007 by two college pals, Adam Silver and Sarah Dickinson, NEW YORK PUZZLE COMPANY started with a simple idea of making a puzzle of the iconic NYC subway map.
With only six puzzle designs in our line, they decided to take the plunge to exhibit at the NY Toy Fair and see what people thought of their designs. Seeing all of the puzzles in the market at Toy Fair was eye opening. They quickly realised that there was a lack of interesting imagery in the puzzle world.
Sarah and Adam always thought that puzzles should be more than just a fun activity to do at home – puzzles should be works of interesting art. Part fun activity and part home décor, rather than throw them away when finished, they should be kept on display.
Sticking with that concept, they've carefully expanded their products by choosing each new product line to follow this philosophy. Through the years, the line has grown to an expansive line of puzzles and accessories featuring iconic magazine covers and art to composed art pieces with common themes Their products are all gallery-worthy gifts and have a distinctly literary, nostalgic yet fun feel.
Many customers love to frame their finished puzzles and hang them on their walls as works of art so NYPC take care choosing each image so that every puzzle is evocative with always the right level of challenge.
Made with 100% recycled 80 point chipboard thickness. That’s 20% higher than most standard made puzzles.
Linen-style paper used on all puzzles since 2014 to reduce glare while playing and provide a better feel to the pieces.
All puzzles are shaken before being boxed to help reduce the amount of puzzle dust.
With sustainability in mind New York Puzzle Company are a proud member of 1% for the planet - 1% of the sale of each product we sell is donated to environmental non-profits committed to creating a healthy planet.
Few kids were as obsessed with puzzles as a child as co-founder Adam Silver. Choosing his first job working at a toy store restocking the puzzle shelf, Adam was hooked. He puzzled in his spare time, on vacations and now does it for a living!
Turning his passion into a career took some hard work. He started at Cornell University, majoring in both Economics and History and got his law degree from University of Michigan. Now he puts all those skills into use as the head of sales, strategy, product development and licensing for NYPC.
Always a designer and aspiring entrepreneur, Co-Founder Sarah Dickinson has been crafting things for as long as she can remember. Dabbling in architecture, interior design and accessories creation, she had collaborated with the MTA on earlier projects such as the Metro Card Bag.
Also a History major with a minor in Architecture from Cornell University, Sarah went on to get her Master's degree in Environmental Conservation Education from NYU. She is head of design, operations, and finance for NYPC. She is also the environmental ambassador and liaison with 1% for the Planet.
New York Puzzle Company decided to take its environmental engagement a step further by becoming a member of 1% for the Planet. This means we pledge 1% of the sale of each puzzle to environmental non-profits committed to creating a healthy planet.
