It’s made the old-fashioned way in a cauldron, just like La Corvette’s bathroom soaps, but the addition of linseed oil and pomace oil (sourced from the remains of crushed grapes) gives it heavy-duty power.
La Corvette has been making cauldron-cooked olive oil black soap at its factory in Marseille using traditional expertise for over 125 years. Black soap is a very effective natural cleaner for the whole house, Ecological, 100% natural and biodegradable, it can easily replace about a dozen specific householder cleaning products, and eliminate the packaging that goes along with them.
Here are a few frequently asked questions about black soap:
Black soap is used in France as a natural insectide. To protect plants and roses against aphids, whiteflies and mealybugs, thoroughly mix about 1 tablespoon of black soap paste with 1 litre of water and spray the mixture on the plants, not forgetting under leaves, Repeat after two days.
Doing this at cooler times of the day avoids any risk of leaves getting burnt by the hot midday sun.
Of course! It’s a very fuss-free, versatile cleanser, so therefore economical. No more nasty chemicals and no fainting spells from strong chemicals.
For flooring, surfaces, wood, ovens, copper, silver: Dilute about 1 tablespoon in 3 litres of hot water. No rinsing required.
For extra-deep cleaning: Dilute about 3 tablespoons in 3 litres of hot water. No rinsing required,
For maintaining silverware or DIY and garden tools: In your laundry, kitchen, garden sink or bucket, dilute about 3-4 tablespoons in 3 litres of hot water. Soak items for 5 minutes. Dry with a soft cloth.
For fabric stain removal: Place a hazelnut-sized portion of paste on your fabric, rub lightly and leave for a few minutes. Launder the item in your washing machine as usual.
As black soap is very concentrated, for light coloured fabrics (such as white linens and cotton) we recommend testing it on a small, inconspicuous area prior to use.
For standard machine washing: Add 3 tablespoons of black soap paste for every 5 kilos of laundry. Add 100ml of white vinegar as a natural softener. Add natural essential oils for fragrance, if you like.
Yes. Start by rinsing your pet’s coat and massage in 1 tablespoon of black soap paste. Rinse and wipe dry.
