More About the John Franklin Christmas Lunch
Since 2001, the John Franklin Christmas Lunch has been jointly run by St Patrick’s Catholic Church and St John’s Anglican Church in Sutherland. They provide a free Christmas lunch to those who are without company or living in poverty on Christmas Day.
Unfortunately, due to venue issues the lunch had to be cancelled last year disappointing hundreds of guests who were looking forward to this special event.
The John Franklin team organise gift distribution. Volunteers assist guests in choosing a gift and donated food items.
Other volunteers include First Aiders, entertainment staff, choir members and musicians, photographers and those assisting with transport, and other general duties. And not forgetting the Boxing Day folks who pull down decorations, pack up and stow away items for the next year's lunch.
